In one of our previous blogs, we shared some music that might be interesting for musicians who may not be very familiar with the bassoon!
If you haven't seen that blog yet, check it out here:
But here's another piece featuring the bassoon that is pretty interesting! It's called "Muldoon the Old Bassoon." It's a fun children's song aimed at younger musicians, telling them a little bit about this amazing instrument.

This was part of an interesting record released in 1954, called "Songs about Woodwinds":
While styles of music have changed over the years, some of the goals of bringing awareness to musical instruments, especially those that are more unique, have not.
These efforts are definitely just as important back then as they are today.
Musicians need to be given the opportunity at a younger age to become much more familiar with different musical instruments...rather than only having the limited options from picking the common instruments they see all the time.
For me, personally, I know that if I did not hear about the bassoon during 5th grade from a music teacher who was familiar with the instrument, I would have never had the chance to experience the bassoon in my life. I could have missed out on all of the amazing opportunities and experiences I've experienced, all because of the bassoon.
Because of the bassoon...I had the chance to perform as a part of a youth orchestra in Carnegie Hall in New York. I was just 12 years old at the time, but this was one of the most memorable experiences of my life!
